Not So Near To Here (DiMartino/DiMartino)

I hear you talkin' the same old cliche

It gets too hard to listen to what you say

You say the same thing most every day

And you don't care what I think anyway

CHORUS:

I hear a transmission in my alien brain

Maybe I'm crazy, no, I'm totally sane

And there's nothing I gotta do

Like get far away from the likes of you

Stop bringin' me down for not joinin' the fold

Your routine dream is gettin' old

It's all been told and it's all been told

And the lies you tell just leave me cold

REPEAT CHORUS

Far away

On the long lost highway

No greedy piper to pay

Only the dust to show me the way

You only pay me mind 'cause there's somethin' you need

But I got somethin' else you'll never see

Don't ask me again - I got nothin' to say

And I think it's way past time I was on my way

REPEAT CHORUS

  Space and Time (DiMartino/DiMartino)

Space here, time there - don't they make a lovely pair

Loving first, dying last - look at how the time goes past

Can you hear the music in your mind

Me, I seem to hear it all the time

Sing to me all the songs you've heard

Play every note, sing every word

That really isn't so absurd

Light here, shadow there - don't they make a striking pair

Cold fate, blind luck - notes richet, my ears are struck

Light shines in the room through the window shade

The sun is up, you know, but the bed's not made

Let's lie here by the radio

There really isn't any place to go

Life flies by, but time is so slow

Man here, woman there - don't they make a lovely pair

Sound sifts up from the stage - Mark the book, now turn the page

Pieces of my mind lie all around

Peace of mind you know just can't be found

Does love end once it starts

The answer, darlin', lies in your heart

Words really are just a small part...

  Make Me Scream (DiMartino/DiMartino)

You don't have to act like the Marlboro Man - the strong, silent type

Or some kind of sweet-talkin' man full of bullshit and hype

Don't have to be brash or sensitive or something in between

All you really gotta do is make me scream

I don't care if you're rich , I don't care of you're poor

I don't have to be wined and dined, I don't have to be adored

You don't have to say you're the greatest thing the world has ever seen

All you really gotta do is make me scream

Make me scream into the night

Make me holler for mercy, make me scratch, make me bite

Put me in the middle of my favorite wet dream

I don't care what else you do just make me scream, scream scream

I don't need to hear your life story or hear your clain to fame

I don't care what you do for a living - don't even need to know your name

I don't care if you're ambitious or half-crazy or serene

All I really wanna know is can you make me scream...

  Nasty Girls (DiMartino/DiMartino)

We love all the nasty girls

Nasty girls just can't be beat

We love all the nasty girls

Sweet girls good enough to eat

We like the girls that voh-dee-oh-doh

Know what they like and are fond of fellatio

We love all the nasty girls because we're nasty too

We love all the nasty girls

Nasty girls just can't be beat

We love all the nasty girls

Sweet girls good enough to eat

We like the girls that dress for success

But nasty girls are always dressed for sex

We love all the nasty girls because we're nasty too

We love all the nasty girls

Nasty girls just can't be beat

We love all the nasty girls

Sweet girls good enough to eat

We love the girls who have some kind of kink

Nasty girls - more out there than you think

We love all the nasty girls because we're nasty too

We love those nasty girls...

  Jimmy Do (DiMartino/DiMartino)

Jimmy Do, whatcha gonna do

I can see you, I can feel you, I know what you've been through

A shattered ending in a wall of steel and glass

Happened quickly, and now it's come to pass

Live hard, love hard, and die young

The fate of some...

You left without a real good-bye

Knowing that you're gone brings tears to my eyes

I knew that empty feeling before I heard the deed

Hurry down the highway, all of God's speed

Live hard, love hard, and die young

The fate of some...

Jimmy Do, you gotta tell me true

This time is it me, or is it really you

The room is spinning, and I cannot really tell

What is going on, but I still can yell

Live hard, love hard, and die young

The fate of some...

And we hang on by a thread

Dream about it in our beds at night

It has become the fate of some

Live hard, love hard, and die young

A roller coaster ride, now that I look back

Living in a world where we thought we had the knack

But now the tears and joy just slip on by

Why Jimmy, tell me, do tell me why

Live hard, love hard, and die young

The fate of some...

And we hang on by a thread

Dream about it in our beds at night

It has become the fate of some

Live hard, love hard, and die young

  Bones at Eleven (DiMartino/DiMartino)

You can hear the dogs barkin' from a long way away

Runnin' down the road with their tails between their legs

And they're here - a long way from home

It used to be a secret cell, but now the cover's been blown

You can see the firelight - smoke fills the building square

The only person that I see is a carpet salesman there

He's tryin' to liquidate all the rugs he has in stock

He carryin' a black suitcase, and it sounds just like a clock

When you get back to town, you should look me up

We can ride around in my pickup truck

We can't pretend it was like it was before

Someone bought the farm - must be a religious war

Keep one eye on your back and one eye straight ahead

Check the bathroom closet and underneath the bed

You can't stay here - it's too far from home

The bombs have been dropped - better git on home

  God's Green Room (DiMartino/DiMartino)

We want you to know which way to go

What choices to make, what chances to take, what's real and what's fake

We'll say the words that show you the way

To peace and salvation and bliss - or so we say

Your prayers will be answered right here on live TV

If you want to get to heaven, send your money to me...

Then you'll begin to accept your sin

The ones we define, and then in good time you'll be just fine

So give us a call right away

We can save your soul - or so we say

Your prayers will be answered right here on live TV

If you want to get to heaven, send your money to me...

We have real estate and antiquities

But we would like some more, fill the collection plate, please

We got the songs, and we got the creed

Just about everything you could ever need

So dig down deep, send your money today

We can save your soul - or so we say

We can save your soul - or so we say

We can save your soul...

  Dutch Flowers (DiMartino/DiMartino)

There's a sign up on the wall

To get on the ride you must be this tall

But it don't really matter much to me

Plenty of other things for me to see

All along euphoria glen

Strolling through Dutch Flowers again

Everyone wants to be a star

They all got their hand in the cookie jar

But it don't really matter much to me

I don't mind a little anonymity

Amongst my psychedelic friends

Strolling through Dutch Flowers again

I prefer to spend my time making up my silly rhymes, oh yeah

Stopping every couple of hours, taking time to smell the flowers, oh yeah

Life's too short for elaborate schemes - better off with little pipe dreams, oh yeah

Maybe the world will pass me by

If I manage to get real high

But it don't really matter much to me

I've found the key to my serenity

I like to giggle now and then

Strolling through Dutch Flowers again

I just like to get silly now and then

Strolling through Dutch Flowers again

  The Sins of Others (DiMartino/DiMartino)

Empty rooms, empty beds

Dealing daily with empty heads

People living with hearts of stone

The sins of others are must greater than your own

Little devils in my head

Can you hear them, what they said

I can tell you I wish they would go

The sins of others have begun to take their toll

Let me go...

When the circus comes to town

All the clowns just hang around

I don't laugh, though, every time

'Cause the sins of others look a lot like mine

Necroditty (DiMartino/DiMartino)

Ollie was a Necromancer not to be out-coyed

But he had no dancing partner, which had him quite annoyed

Ollie thought, and an idea came into his head

"I can get a tango partner.  I can raise the dead."

And then the day rolled by, and the fog rolled in

With a body on the slab it was time to begin

So with his black cat bone and his plastic bottle of booze

He started up his spell - he had nothing left to lose

Now he'd made his preparations for his mystic night

Sportin' his magic duds, he was quite a sight

Hidden names of God he whispered, words of power he screamed

Fumes from stinky pots boiled and swirled and steamed

And then the cat went out and the dog came in

Ollie knew it was time to begin

Fires burned, cauldrons boiled, it was quite a show

Impressive as it sounds, there's something you don't know

I must tell you of something you might have missed

Ollie had one shortcoming - a grammer-shattering lisp

You couldn't understand a thing, his lisp it was so strong

His spells, his chants, and everything he tried had gone wrong

His dancing partner was still dead out on the road

It's hard to do the tango with a rotting corpse, you know

The dog had turned into a toad, Ollie was now green

All of this because he lisped what he didn't mean

So enunciate properly, and use good diction, too

'Cause everything that happened to Ollie could certainly happen to you
