The
Drews are songwriting team Andrew DiMartino (guitar, vocals) and Jen
DiMartino (bass, vocals). Their
thick acoustic sound works well in a variety of venues, from small coffee
houses to larger stage shows. Drews songs rarely take life too
seriously-- ranging from a story about a misguided optometrist serial
killer ("Lloyd's Eyes"), to drinking songs ("Lucky
Ones" and "Lager Drinkin' Laggard"), to other forms of
pleasurable escapism ("Dutch Flowers" and "Nasty
Girls").
Drews
shows have occurred in various shapes and sizes in a number of venues,
benefits, and TV shows across the US and parts of Europe. They
receive regular airplay on radio shows in the US and in Europe.
The
Drews released their debut CD, Strategically Interrupted Silence,
in 2001, distributed by Right Now Records and BDC, and they have just
completed their newest CD, The Sins of Others, recorded at Egg
Studio in Seattle and produced with Conrad Uno, of Popllama fame. It
is scheduled for release in 2004.
While
the closest genre classification of The Drews' music is probably Folk, a
variety of influences are present, such as old cartoon soundtracks, blues,
and country. These influences combine to give the Drews an energetic
and unique sound that defies stereotyping.
"...It's
cartoon music...kind of like skipping through Hell..."
